Day 9 | IN: Radical Community

READ

John 15:12-17 ESV

12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. 17 These things I command you, so that you will love one another.

Jesus redefines friendship for each of us. He calls us friends and gives us the greatest example of love- laying down His own life for us, his friends. We are called to bear fruit by loving others as Jesus loves.

REFLECT

Questions to help you reflect on how to be in community and love others as Christ commanded:

1. How have you seen the fruit of the Spirit manifested in you in the last month? What is the weakest fruit manifested in your life this month?

2. Who is someone you have seen the Holy Spirit in lately? How?

Review the IN statements below. Discern how true or untrue these statements are in your life. What would you do next to strengthen this aspect of your walk with Jesus?

• I am living in community with other Christians who help me grow in Christ.

• My devotional and prayer life with my family is consistent.

• I enjoy encouraging and building up others.

• I am praying for and with others.

• I look for opportunities to invest in the lives of others for their good.

• I seek advice from other Christians on important decisions.

• I have no problem reconciling broken relationships.

• My forgiveness is quick and my judgement slow.
