Romans 12:9-10 ESV

Marks of the True Christian

9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.

In this passage, Paul calls us to continue to show one another honor. He reminds us that when we think we have loved well or loved enough, we should continue to raise the bar.

Day 9 | IN: Radical Community

READ

John 15:12-17 ESV

12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. 17 These things I command you, so that you will love one another.

Jesus redefines friendship for each of us. He calls us friends and gives us the greatest example of love- laying down His own life for us, his friends. We are called to bear fruit by loving others as Jesus loves.

the days that were formed for me,

when as yet there was none of them.

I Am the True Vine

15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

This passage illustrates the importance of having a deep, ongoing, relationship with God for spiritual growth and fruitfulness. Jesus reminds us that our strength and ability to bear fruit come from abiding in Him.
