Mark 2:1-5 NIV

1 A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. 2 They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. 3 Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. 4 Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

INVEST: Talk about going above and beyond for a friend! These four men literally carried their paralyzed friend Jesus. Determined to see their friend healed, they invested their time, resources, and physical exertion to lay him at the feet of Jesus.

What did Jesus do with their investments? Spiritual and physical miracles! They came to receive a physical miracle, but Jesus gave them even more— forgiveness. Jesus can do more than we ask or think when we are willing to invest of our time, energy, and resources to bring others to come to know Him.

John 1:40-42 NIV

40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.

INVEST: Andrew’s excitement about finding Jesus led him to bring his brother Peter to meet the Messiah. This simple act of sharing his discovery had a profound impact. Similarly, our enthusiasm for Christ can inspire those close to us. Don’t underestimate the power of a personal invitation. Who in your life needs to hear about Jesus? Share your story and invite them to church or a Bible study.

Luke 5:10 NIV

10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners.

Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.”

INVEST: Jesus reassures us that He will equip us for the work He calls us to do. Just as Simon Peter was called to catch men, we are called to share the Gospel and bring others to Christ. This can be intimidating, but Jesus tells us not to be afraid. He promises to be with us and to use us in ways we might not expect. Trust Him today to guide you as you invest in others.

Mark 2:17 NIV

17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

INVEST: Jesus came to seek and save the lost. Like a doctor seeks out the sick, we are called to reach out to those who are spiritually hurting and in need of healing. This might mean stepping out of our comfort zones to connect with people who are different from us or struggling with sin. By investing in their lives, we reflect Christ’s love and compassion, offering them the hope and healing found in Him.

Matthew 28:19-20 NIV

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

INVEST: Jesus’ Great Commission is a call to action for all believers. We are tasked with making disciples, baptizing them, and teaching them His ways. This isn’t just a mission for pastors or missionaries; it’s for each of us. By investing our time and resources in others, we help them grow in their faith and follow Jesus. Remember, Jesus promised to be with us always, giving us the strength and courage to fulfill this mission.

Luke 19:1-5 NIV

Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.”

INVEST: Many of us may be familiar with the story of Zacchaeus– of how he went to great lengths just to see Jesus. But how different would that story be if Jesus had passed by that day and continued his journey without taking the time to invest in the life of Zacchaeus? 

Instead of journeying on, Jesus stopped and pursued time with him, staying in his home, and sharing the hope of Salvation. Who in your path may be searching for Jesus? Who has God called you to invest your time with to share the hope of His good news?

Ephesians 6:18-20 NIV

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

INTERCEDE: In this passage, Paul instructs us to bring prayer into our whole lives. If we are preparing to share the most amazing news ever with people, then we must pray about everything – bringing all details, people, and situations to Jesus. Today, how can you weave prayer into your whole day? Pray especially for the spread of the gospel. Pray today for those who will be preaching tomorrow and for those who will be preaching during the Charlotte Crusade – that they may declare the good news fearlessly.

Matthew 5:14-16 NIV

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

INTERCEDE: As followers of Christ, we are called to be a light in the darkness. Our lives should reflect the love and truth of Jesus, illuminating the way for others. When we intercede for those who do not know Him, we become a beacon of hope, showing the way to a relationship with God. Let us pray for boldness to shine brightly, allowing our good deeds to glorify our Father in heaven.

35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. 36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. 37 Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. 38 I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”

INTERCEDE: We don’t always get to see the outcome of the seeds we sow for God’s kingdom, but let’s not be discouraged. Sowing is not in vain because Christ goes before us. Open your eyes this week to the people God brings across your path & pray for the Holy Spirit to show you how to follow Jesus into interceding in prayer for those who you may not have noticed before.

Hebrews 7: 24-28 NIV

24 but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is able to save completely[c] those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

26 Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.

INTERCEDE: In this Scripture, we are reminded that Jesus always lives to make intercession and that He has an ongoing and active role in this world. It is not up to us to save others, but we are called to be His witnesses in this fallen world.  Is there someone who you know who is always struggling to find significance, love, or peace? How might you bear witness to the saving love of Jesus? How can you intercede in prayer for them today?
