All Creation answers to Jesus
16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, 17 got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” 21 Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going. John 6:16-21
Fear paralyzes us, fear of the unknown when it comes to jobs, relationships, life choices and more. Fear stops us in our track. Fear of what others will think of us affects our faith life too. We are often afraid people will make fun of us, ostracize us, think we are wacko, or some other derogatory comment when they find out we are a Christian.
In today’s world it doesn’t seem cool to be a Christian. We try to do our faith on our own. We may say we believe but do we rely on Christ for our faith, or do we try to do it on our own and live in continued fear? Jesus says “Do not be afraid.” He stops the storms in our lives that block our faith. He has the power to say STOP to all that rages around us! Do we listen and believe that? He reaches out His hand and grabs us – we need to grab and hold on to Him.
His promise to us is true. He says when you walk with Me you are free from fear of what others think or do around you. We can see the waters calm around us. The storms may be there still, but we can stand in the eye of the storm holding Jesus’ hand and not fear because He has us. Fear not, grab His hand, stand in the midst of the storms of the world, the storms of our faith without fear, because He will never let go.
Prayer
Father God, help us to not be afraid. Help us to not listen to voices in our head that say FEAR. Come to us to calm the storms that are in our lives so we can see you clearly. We know when we hold onto you our fear leaves us. Father, help us draw nearer to Jesus trusting in Him more and more. Help us to hear Him too, when He says “do not be afraid.” Help us to live out our faith every day in world that seems to swirl more and more. Thank you LORD for never letting go.
