The harvest is ready

Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John (although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples), he left Judea and departed again for Galilee. And he had to pass through Samaria. So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. Following Jesus is a higher priority

There is more than what you see

Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. ²He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.” ³Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” ⁴“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” ⁵Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. ⁶Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. ⁷You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ ⁸The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

⁹“How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.

¹⁰“You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? ¹¹Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. ¹²I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? ¹³No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. ¹⁴Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, ¹⁵that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”  John 3:1-15 Continue reading “20/20 Mission Clarity – Day 3 – January 14, 2020” →

Jesus cares about the details

The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, ²and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. ³The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.” “Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.”⁵But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”⁶Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons. ⁷Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled, ⁸he said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions.⁹When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. ¹⁰“A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!”¹¹This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him.¹²After the wedding he went to Capernaum for a few days with his mother, his brothers, and his disciples. John 2:1-12

I remember the stress my sister endured while she was planning her wedding. There was a whole lot of excitement and a whole lot of stress. I want you to take a moment and imagine if you were hosting a wedding and ran out of supplies for your guests halfway into the wedding. I can only imagine the level of worry that would consume anyone in that situation. That’s what is happening in this story. Jesus is taking time to celebrate with friends. Then Jesus’s mother makes a request for more wine. She knew her son was the Son of God; she knew Jesus had authority over the servants. There was worry that the party would not be the same without wine. Our Jesus cares about the details of our lives and He cares about our worries – so He summons the wedding servants. My favorite thing about this story is that Jesus did not touch the water or the wine. He worked through the servants instead! I know that God will work through you. Jesus revealed His power and glory through wedding servants. Do you believe God can work through you in the biggest and smallest of details? Will you let Him today? Keep an eye out for opportunities for God to use you to serve others miraculously. Ask Him to tell you when the opportunities arise. May you see today that Jesus has all power and authority, yet He wants to use you because you are His precious child.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, you are so caring. You understand that sometimes the smallest things can cause us the greatest worry. Thank you for caring so much that you want to use us to fix the problems we see around us each day. Speak to me, your child, through this 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting and strengthen our church in this time. ⁴³The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” ⁴⁴Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.⁴⁵Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”⁴⁶Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” ⁴⁷Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” ⁴⁸Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” ⁴⁹Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God!
